As every year, the Neraida Floating Museum is celebrating International Museum Day. This day, observed annually on 18 May, was established in 1977 by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The theme of the 2025 celebration is:
“The Future of Museums in Rapidly Changing Communities”
In a world that is constantly and rapidly changing, museums are now called more than ever to redefine their role and place in society and to develop new ways of communication and interaction with the public. The specific focus areas of this year’s celebration are: “Intangible Cultural Heritage”, “The Power of Youth” and “New Technologies”.
As part of this year’s celebration, the Neraida Floating Museum is organising two free activities that will take place on Saturday 17/5 and Sunday 18/5/2025. These activities are:
“Exploring the Neraida”
Saturday 17/5 and Sunday 18/5, during the Museum’s opening hours
Activity for children aged 4–6
Young visitors to the Neraida Floating Museum will be invited to explore the exhibition using a printed guide handed out at the entrance. Through simple activities—such as drawing, identifying objects, and playful discovery—they will become familiar with the Museum and its stories. The activity is aimed at children aged 4–6 and is free of charge. No pre-registration is required.
“A journey through inventions from the exhibits of the Neraida Floating Museum”
Saturday 17/5 and Sunday 18/5, 18:00–19:00
Guided tour for the general public
Focusing on selected exhibits, the tour will present the stories behind machines and techniques on display at the Museum that are still used today in fields such as construction, communications, and transportation.
The activity is open to visitors of all ages, will last approximately one hour, and will conclude with a visit to the ship’s deck.
Pre-registration is required at [email protected], including full names and number of participants, preferred day of visit, and a contact telephone number.
Participation in all Museum activities is free of charge.
The full programme of activities organised by museums across the country is available from ICOM – International Council of Museums, Hellenic National Committee, here.
